This past week, Commissioner Ciancio, along with County Executive George Latimer, County Legislator Margaret Cunzio, town officials, and other representatives met to discuss the possibility of opening Westlake Drive on top of the Kensico Dam. The closure of the road back in 2001 created a problem that our residents see everyday. For emergency services these problems were amplified. Since then a lot has changed here in the department. We now have an agreement with North White Plains Fire Company No. 1 to send and receive mutual aid resources during emergencies. The ability for apparatus to use the top of the dam is crucial. The Valhalla Fire Department along with North White Plains FD, Valhalla Ambulance Corps, Town of Mount Pleasant, NY, Westchester County Government and other organizations are asking New York City to consider opening the top of the dam and help make our towns safer.
