In
the Valhalla Fire District, we are extremely fortunate to have
so many fire hydrants spread throughout its hamlet. Time is lost
when your friend cannot be found in an emergency situation. If
your friend is buried in snow or covered by shrubs or debris,
it complicates a situation even further.
In the winter months, your Fire
Department keeps running into problems with snow-covered hydrants.
Sometimes, with a heavy snowstorm, members of the Valhalla Water
District and Fire Department spend their time and energy clearing
out many of these hydrants, but there are many that they may not
clear away. During the summer months, the problem with these hydrants
is that the residents plant ornamental plants and shrubs around
them, which makes them hard to see. We seek cooperation from the
residents of Valhalla to refrain from this practice as it can
seriously jeopardize the efforts of the Fire Department in containing
a conflagration that might involve your home.
It is also recommended that during
a snowstorm, neighbors take turns clearing away snow accumulation
around a near-by hydrant. Members of the Fire Department lose
valuable time clearing away snow from around hydrants. A clean
hydrant is a Panacea to a safe home. Your cooperation in the endeavor
will insure protection to you and your neighbors. It might mean
a little more work, but isn’t it worth it! |
