On Sunday at 1:42 PM, the Valhalla Fire Department was dispatched to an active chlorine leak at DEP Shaft 18, located at 20 Westlake Drive. Initial responding units included Car 2481, Engine 81, Rescue 9, Rescue 59, Tower Ladder 49, the Westchester County HazMat Team, Valhalla EMS, and 37 Medic. Upon arrival, 2481 established command, DEP Police secured the area, and crews worked alongside Westchester County HazMat personnel to assess and mitigate the hazardous condition. Due to the nature of chlorine gas, responders operated with a strong focus on public safety while monitoring the scene and surrounding area. Crews plugged the leak and monitored the scene till levels dropped to a safe level. 1 worker on scene was transported to the hospital with minor chemical burns The leak was contained and there was no threat to the public.
